Are Nest Thermostats Worth It?

Nest thermostats are known for helping homeowners save money on their utility bills, and include many benefits. Let’s start by understanding the difference between the Nest Learning Thermostat and the Nest Thermostat E.

Nest Learning Thermostat

The Nest Learning Thermostat has an MSRP of $249, is 3.3 in. in diameter and comes in seven different colors making it extremely easy to find a perfect match for your interior needs. This thermostat has the ability ot learn your household’s habits, create a customized energy saving schedule, and integrates directly with other Nest devices as well as Amazon Alexa

One of our favorite features, is a super simple one. The Nest Learning Thermostat has a high-resolutions color display with something called “Farsight Technology.” Basically, this means that when you enter a room, the thermostat automatically lights up and shows you either the temperature, the weather or the time depending on your preferences. 

Nest Thermostat E

The Nest Thermostat E (The E) has a slightly lower pricepoint than the Learning Thermostat coming in at $169 MSRP. It is slightly smaller, coming it at 3.19in. in diameter, and the body itself is only available in the color white. Rather than a high-resolution full color display, the Thermostat E has a “frosted” display that allows it to inconspicuously blend into any room.

As far as functionality, the E has pretty much all of the same options as the Nest Learning Thermostat; however, it is only compatible with 85% of 24V heating adn cooling systems on the market. We recommend using Google’s Compatibility Checker to make sure that it’s compatible with your system before purchasing, or just contact us at GMC Heating and Cooling so that one of our technicians can ensure compatibility.

1. Nest Thermostats Can Be Controlled Remotely

Both thermostat models allow you to monitor, track, and adjust the temperature of your home directly from the Nest app on your mobile device. This allows you to have a more tailored approach to being comfortable in your home. Imagine a long hard day at work, and instead of arriving home to a house that is too hot or cold - you arrive home to your ideal temperature because your thermostat literally pays attention to what you like.

2. Save Energy with a Nest Thermostat

Thanks to pairing with your phone through the Nest app, the Nest thermostats are capable of telling when you leave the house for extended periods of time. Over time, the Nest will learn your schedule and model your homes HVAC output around that schedule. 3. Nest Thermostat Home Energy Reports

With a Nest Thermostat, you have access to the Energy History section of your app. This is a log of daily energy usage and gives you the ability to analyze and track trends in your energy usage. At the end of every month, the smart thermostat sends you a report giving you an in-depth view of your month’s energy usage.
