When To Change My HVAC Filter?

Filters are critical parts of your HVAC system that require frequent checks and replacement. Some specific types of filters only require replacement every 6 months or longer, but generally, the majority of residential homeowners shouldn’t go longer than 30 days without at least checking their filter.

Comparing a clean and dirty air filter

Two reasons why it’s important to change your filters:

Reason 1: Your Electric Bill will get More Expensive

When your air filter gets dirty or clogged, it blocks airflow into your air conditioner and furnace. Your HVAC system now has to work extra hard to circulate the air, which means it has to pull more power from somewhere.

That somewhere just so happens to be your checkbook.

Reason 2: Coughs and Sneezes = Dirty Air

Your HVAC system is responsible for circulating air through your home. Now imagine that clean crisp air, being drug through a filter with months of dust, allergens, and who knows what else getting stuck to it.

Yuck…. We know.

Did You Know?

High Efficiency Particulate Air (or HEPA for short) filters are so efficient and effective that the Environmental Protection Agency says they can remove more than 99% of airborne pollutants.

At GMC Heating and Cooling, we are committed to making sure that the air circulating through your home isn’t full of dust or allergens and that when your Air Conditioning kicks on, your bank account isn’t as stressed.
